INFECTING THE CITY REVIEW
The festival was quite interesting. I loved the fact that the art was made up of recycling. I have been doing recycling for about 10 years and I can't stop. It comes so naturally. I did find it funny how they had bins that were allocated to a certain recycling item and people seemed to not grasp that idea. The cardboard would be in the TIN bin and then others also mixed up. People in South Africa just have no idea when it comes to recycling. It's all new for them.As and artist/jeweller I would look at creating extravagant jewellery out of recycling. I would make them so different to what the item was originally that people would not recognize them. Say for example a plastic bottle and then transform it into something completely different.
In order to spread the awareness of recycling and that one can really benefit from it, is a tricky task. People are not interested in things that take too much effort. So if one could create an art piece that would gain interest then you can start to spread the idea of recycling. If one could create a project that would encourage people to recycle and then in return they would benefit from it, like getting money for it or creating something new with the recycling and then sell that. This would not only educate people, it would also create more jobs which are desperately needed. A funky recycling Jewellery line for example could be created. Done tastefully and well, it would go off like a rocket.
